Operational Excellence Takes Flight at Paris’ Largest Airports with Extreme Fabric

Groupe ADP is a global leader in the airport industry, managing the two largest airports in France: Paris-Orly (ORY) and Paris Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG). The organization embarked on a significant project to renew its entire network infrastructure with SPIE ICS and Extreme Networks to support the increasing demand for high-performance, scalable, and reliable network connections.

Fast Facts

  • 67.4 million passengers traveled through CDG in 2023
  • 32.3 million passengers traveled through ORY in 2023
  • 700 technical locations

“Today, we have thousands of devices permanently connected, and the automation tools we’re starting to implement with Extreme Networks are making our day-to-day operations much easier.”
Nicholas Apchie
Head of Infrastructure and IT Operations, Groupe ADP

Challenges

  • Needed to replace outdated switches across 700 technical locations, which were critical for connecting all equipment on their network infrastructure.
  • Too much technical complexity, the organization needed to standardize, automate, and industrialize processes and tools to simplify operations
  • 24/7 operations limit when technical projects can be done. There needs to be minimal downtime, and updates need to be done in tight timeframes to not impact operations.

Extreme Solutions

  • Extreme Fabric
  • ExtremeCloud IQ - Site Engine
  • Universal Hardware
  • Premier Services

Results

  • Enhanced Bandwidth and Performance: The new network infrastructure increased bandwidth throughput by 10 to 25 times, significantly improving network performance for a better guest experience and energy efficiency.
  • Operational Efficiency: The automation tools in Extreme Fabric simplified daily operations, allowing Groupe ADP to manage thousands of connected devices more efficiently.
  • Smooth Deployment: The collaboration between Groupe ADP, SPIE ICS, and Extreme Networks resulted in a modern, reliable network infrastructure, meeting the project’s goals and enabling smooth operations with minimal disruption. In addition, Extreme's Premier Services team was called in to support the project during the busy season in the leadup to the 2024 Summer Olympics.
  • Improved Scalability: The new network infrastructure supports future growth and increased connectivity demands.
"SPIE ICS and Extreme Networks have shown that the hazards and specificities of working in a terminal in the midst of the public were perfectly taken into account. The partnership worked extremely well, with the 2 teams available non-stop to provide us with a new, modern infrastructure. It is exactly what we were looking for."
